DDBSA Show Rules and Regulations for
Earning a DDBSA Championship - Effective
Please Read Carefully
Updated
The DDBSA Does Not Offer a Jr. Championship.
The Dogue
de Bordeaux Society of America, Inc. sanctions all legitimate shows and matches
for championship points and working titles. The DDBSA will grant championships
and Working Dog Award
of Achievement Titles to dogs that meet all
requirements. A champion certificate will be issued to the owner of the dog,
and the owner will have the right to use the title on all registrations and
pedigrees.
Only dogs AKC-FSS Registered, belonging to members in
good standing with the DDBSA, and are paid up to date on dues are eligible to
receive points. Wins earned while dues are unpaid do not qualify towards a
DDBSA championship.
The DDBSAA awards the following conformation championship titles:
Champion ~ Grand Champion
~ Supreme Grand Champion
Champion
In order to become a DDBSA Champion, a dog must:
|
· |
Have a minimum of 200 points by earning Minor and/or Major wins |
|
· |
Have shown and acquired championship points under at least three
different judges |
|
· |
Must have won three Best of Breed or Best of
Opposite Sex with competition (see definition of competition), under three
different judges. These are called MAJOR WINS. A win of the above without
the minimum competition is called a MINOR WIN |
|
· |
Must have won one MAJOR WIN (as noted above) at or over
the age of 18 months |
|
· |
All dogs
participating in the program must have an AKC-FSS pedigree on file to earn /
accumulate points and to earn the DDBSA CH Title. For first time participants to the program
please send in a copy of your pedigree with your winsheets. Points will not be honored nor a DDBSA CH
Title awarded without fulfillment of this
requirement. Effective July 2007 (as
printed in the June 2007 DDBSA Newsletter), only AKC/FSS registration will be
accepted. There will be no exceptions. |
|
· |
With our
new fax / email options for submitting winsheets we
will no longer accept winsheets that are turned in
past the 14 day timeline. If mailing winsheets they
must either be postmarked or in our mailbox within the 14 day period. In addition there will not be a grace
period offered at year end. This will
enable us to serve you better in giving our members quarterly updates and
annual updates. As well for those
members that do turn in winsheets on a timely basis
this makes it a level playing field for all participating in the program. There will be no exceptions |
|
· |
Winsheet – all fields must be filled out in order for your points /
wins to earn / accumulate points and or earn the DDBSA CH Title. The only exception to this is if you place
BIS or BIE. If the Show Chairman does
not have the total # of dogs available, you may leave blank until you receive
this information. We require you to
send us the winsheet by the 14th day but
we will give allowance for this information.
You must contact Anthony (Males) or Hilary (Females) of the issue, and
you are responsible for ensuring the information is sent to us when available
to you. |

Grand Champion
A dog may compete for the title of DDBSA Grand Champion at any
DDBSA sanctioned show. Before a dog may earn Grand Champion points, it must be a
confirmed DDBSA Champion. In order to become a Grand Champion, a dog must
earn 100 Grand Championship points and has completed Working Dog Award of Achievement Levels 1 (WDI)
and received a healthy star for Cardiac. Points earned towards championship do
not count.

shows, it earns an additional 8 points.
Supreme Grand Champion
A dog that
has completed and is recorded as completing it's DDBSA Grand Championship, has
completed and is recorded as completing Working Dog Award of Achievement
Levels 2 & 3 (WDII & WDIII) and has received
a Healthy Star in Hips will automatically receive the title of DDBSA Supreme
Grand Champion.
Age Requirements
In order
to become a DDBSA Champion, a dog must be at least 18 (eighteen) months old on
the day of the show.
Proof of Registration /
Pedigree
In order receive a championship certificate, a copy of an AKC-FSS pedigree must be
submitted. It is strongly recommended that you send this with your first winsheet or points will not be awarded. Championships will
not be awarded without this requirement being
fulfilled.
How To Earn
Championship Points
Championship points may be earned in two ways:
|
· |
Dogs which are not champions in any breed club or registry will
compete in the regular classes (novice, bred-by, open, etc.)
. Championship points will be awarded to the dog and bitch that win
the titles winners dog and winners bitch in the regular classes for that
breed. These "winners" will also compete with any champions in the
best of breed competition, where they may earn additional points for best of
breed or best of opposite sex. The best of breed will compete in the group
competition, where additional points may be earned, including one additional
point for each dog it defeats, including the total number of dogs over six
months in its breed that it has defeated. The first in group will
compete in best in show, where additional points may be earned, including the
number of dogs it beats. |
|
· |
A dog that is a confirmed champion in any other registry or
breed club may earn its DDBSA Championship by competing in the Best of Breed,
Group, and Best in Show competition. Points will be awarded as described.
|
Competition
Competition is defined as:
More than
three dogs of the same sex over 6 months of age not entered in a puppy
or jr. puppy (non-regular) class of the same show time, in the competition, (dog entered in a
regular class only). Dogs entered in Jr. Puppy classes that DO NOT compete against adults DO NOT count as competition. Do
not include them on your winsheet. For example: If
there are 3 or more dogs in open dog, then that is considered competition. If
there is one dog in open dog, two dog in novice dog,
this is considered competition, etc. If there is only one dog in open dog, and
no dogs in any other dog classes over 6 months, this is considered no
competition. If there is one dog is novice dog, and six bitches in open
bitch, this is not considered competition, etc. Any group win, or best in
show/event WITHOUT same sex breed competition in the breed class DOES NOT
constitute a major win.
Submission of Winsheets - How to Get Your Wins/Points Recorded
A winsheet (available from the DDBSA) must be filled
out completely and submitted to the DDBSA Conformation Records Department within 14
days of the show. It is the responsibility of
each exhibitor to have these winsheets available for
the show chairman on the day of the show. Winsheets MUST
be signed by the show chairperson AND have a complete count of competition
filled out, or they will not be accepted. There will be no exceptions
to this rule. Except for AKC Shows (see below), and if you place BIS or BIE, if the show chairperson does not have
the total # of entries available you still will send in your winsheet within the 14 day timeline but we will accept the
total # of entries when available to you, you must contact either Anthony
(Males) or Hilary (Females) and make us aware of the situation. Only DDBSA winsheets will be
accepted.
Requirements for
Winsheets at AKC Shows - How to Get Your Wins/Points
Recorded
A win sheet (available from the DDBSA) must be filled out completely and
submitted to the DDBSA Conformation Records Department within 14 days of
the show. It is the responsibility of each exhibitor to have your winsheets available. Winsheets
from AKC shows will be accepted without signatures of Show Chairs. Please do
not approach show chairs at AKC shows for winsheet
signatures. Show wins will be verified via Superintendent webpages.
"Puppy"
Class in Certain Organizations (ie RBCSWO, IABCA etc)
As a
standard, the DDBSA clarifies Puppy as under the age of 6 months and no points
are awarded to dogs under the age of 6 months, nor are dogs that are in
competition under the age of 6 months counted towards total entry. It is the
understanding of the DDBSA that certain organizations have "puppy
class" that ranges from age 3 months to 18 months, and the same dog can
also be eligible to compete in adult or regular classes. If this situation
arises, the dog owner is required to fill out two separate winsheets,
one for the "puppy" class which will only note dogs over the age of 6
months and also be clearly noted as a "puppy class" and another for
the "regular classes". Combining both events on one winsheet will not be accepted and full points will not be
received. Minor wins only will be awarded to dogs that compete in such
"Puppy classes". Major wins are only earned in "Regular
Classes."
Brace, Brood Bitch,
Stud Dog and Other Special Entries
A separate winsheet must be filled out and submitted for any other
event other than regular confirmation. Included but not limited to events such
as Brace, Stud Dog, Brood Bitch, Veteran, Bred by
Exhibitor. Combining of events will not be accepted and full points will not be
received. Major wins are not earned for all special classes including and not
limited to Brace, Brood Bitch, Stud Dog, Veteran, Bred by Exhibitor etc.
3-6m
Puppies
We will
accept winsheets for Best in Show wins only. These dogs do not get points, but we will
track the # of BIS wins and at the end of the year an award will be given at
nationals for the puppy who has the most Best In Show
wins for the prior year.
Disqualifying
Faults
Effective
for all dogs that have already achieved ANY LEVEL of their DDBSA Championship and any dog
attempting to complete any level of championship: If a dog received two (2) dismissals from
the ring for disqualifying faults per the breed standard, they will no longer
be eligible to complete any level of a DDBSA Champion. If they are already a DDBSA champion
of any
level,
all points and championship titles will be removed, and they will no longer be
considered a DDBSA Champion at any level.
Any dog that currently has a dismissal of a disqualifying fault on record will
be recorded as such
Disqualifying faults per the breed standard are:
|
· |
Mouth not
undershot; wry jaw |
|
· |
An atrophied
tail; a tail that is knotted and laterally deviated or twisted |
|
· |
White on the head
or body; any coat color other than shades of fawn |
Aggression to People
Any dog
that shows severe aggression to people while in the show ring will be dismissed
and banned without refund from entering any DDBSA show, all points and titles
earned will be removed and the dog will no longer be eligible for any level of DDBSA championships
or working dog titles. This decision will be at the discretion of the DDBSA
Board of Directors.
