The Dogue de Bordeaux Society of America was officially put in place in February, 1997, after months, (almost a year) of planning. It is a non-profit corporation registered with the IRS as a 501c7 non-profit corporation and registered in the state of New Jersey as non-profit.

The day-to-day activities of the club are handled by a group of individuals who make up the Officers and Board of Directors. They encourages open communication among members, and welcome all Dogues, if they are show/breeding Dogues, or the family companion.

At this time, there are over
300 (May 2007) members of the DDBSA, and the list grows more each day, from the inital 50 members in 1997 to over 1000 people who have taken part throughout the years.

In 2004 the DDBSA was proclaimed to be the club the AKC FSS is recommending for AKC Parent Club Status for the Dogue de Bordeaux.  In 2006 the Dogue de Bordeaux was officially moved to the AKC Miscellaneous Class.  Also in 2006, the DDBS officially changed its name to the Dogue de Bordeaux Society of America – the DDBSA.

The DDBSA has set forth a list of goals that it is aggressively pursing, such as establishing and running a breed rescue, promoting canine education, prove the natural working ability of the Dogue, to get all owners and fanciers involved in the club, and to encourage the highest standard of breeding of the Dogue de Bordeaux.  The DDBSA is currently working very close with the AKC towards full AKC recognition of the breed.

The DDBSA follows a code of ethics, that is animal friendly, and is the common guidelines to dog ownership. A healthy environment, proper records, breeding ethics, honest sales and advertising, and an agreement to not promote, support, or raise dogs for fighting, facing off, game testing, rolling, or pitting.

The club holds no less than six regional specialty shows a year, multiple suppported entry shows, and one National Specialty Weekend each year. On April, 18, 1998, the DDBSA held their first National Specialty in NJ.  Today the DDBSA National Specialty Weekend is the largest show of the year for the Dogue de Bordeaux in the USA.

The DDBSA offers a club championship for Dogues belonging to club members, and recognizes Dogues competing successfully in working ability events.

The (Bi) Monthly Slobber is the club newsletter and is published every two months. In the newsletter are informative articles on dog care, scientific advancements, and a variety of articles by club members. There are also committee updates, show schedules, and photos of members Dogues.
