PDF’s and the (Bi)Monthly Slobber

PDF is an acronym for Portable Document Format, a file format developed by Adobe Systems.  PDF is a file format developed by Adobe that displays documents identically on any computer system. It's advantage over HTML is that it allows publishers to design complicated layouts using any typefaces and graphics, confident that the end user will view the same layout that the publisher has created.  PDF is a universal file format created by Adobe Systems that allows users to distribute, read, and view electronic documents with all formatting, fonts, text sizes, graphics, color, etc. intact, regardless of the software or platform used to create the file.  Additionally, it reproduces the documents almost precisely as they were originally composed, provides built-in compression, is supported by all popular operating systems and is compatible with most printers.   PDF formatted documents can be transferred over the Internet which are readable, printed, or searched using Adobe Acrobat Reader, an application which can be downloaded from the Adobe Web site at no charge.

Downloading Adobe Reader is quick and easy to do.  As mentioned above, it’s freeware (costs the user nothing to download) available at http://www.adobe.com. By clicking on the link the Adobe website will appear.  If you need to download Adobe Reader, follow the instructions below:

1.       Click on the icon that looks like this:

2.       Another page will display that has a gray box with three items to make choices within.

a.       LANGUAGE - it defaults to English, leave it.

b.       PLATFORM - it defaults to Choose a Platform, you will need to select which operating system you are using.

c.        CONNECTION SPEED - it defaults to Choose a Connection, depending what you are using you will make your choice.

3.       Once you do that, another gray box will appear which lists two items already checked.  We recommend you download the full version of adobe reader but it is your  choice whether or not you opt to Download Photoshop Album 2.0.

4.       After you have made your download selections, press CONTINUE.

5.       Another page will display and at the top there will be a red oval with the word DOWNLOAD within it.  Click on it once.

6.       A dialogue box will appear which gives you the option of running it from it's current location or saving the file to you computer.  I usually just run the file from it's current location but others may opt to save it to a special location on their computer.  Either way, the download works the same.  Just follow the simple instructions once the download starts and completes its installation.
